In Slumber Land On A Barbie Bed!
My daughter graduated from a crib to a toddler bed when she was 2-1/2 years old. I was really hesitant at first, wondering if she’d be up wandering through the house at all hours. Nevertheless, it was time. We spent a week getting her excited about the idea of a toddler bed and asking her questions about what she wanted. She originally wanted a blue Thomas the Tank engine bed but I thought she needed something much more feminine. We showed her pictures of everything imaginable and she fell in love with a Barbie bed. I found that rather strange because this child has never even played with a Barbie. The Barbie bed was pink and white, which may have captured her attention. Her favorite color is pink.
I decided that we would make a big deal of Barbie bed shopping day so that she would be really excited. I had some major fears of bedtime rolling around and suddenly she’d refuse to sleep in it. As soon as she saw the box that the Barbie bed was in, she squealed. Though I still didn’t understand the reason she was choosing this one over some adorable other beds, I delighted in her squeals. Within a few moments, her new Barbie bed was loaded into the back of our SUV and we went out for a special lunch to celebrate. She was more than eager to get home and watch her daddy put the bed together.
Her bedroom is very small which forced us to take apart and put her crib away before the Barbie bed could come to life. I would have like to have left the crib in her room just in case some issues came about, but we just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. Before too long, she was showing us where she wanted her Barbie bed to be placed in her room and climbing all over it. I had purchased special Barbie sheets for her as a surprise and she loved them. We spent the afternoon talking about her bed and playing in her newly rearranged bedroom so that she would get comfortable with it. During the daylight hours, the Barbie bed was her pride and joy. I was dreading the nighttime hours. To my relief, she crawled under the covers that night and never made another peep. I peeked in on her that night as she slept and smiled. She was all curled up in the corner of her Barbie bed and looked incredibly comfortable. I closed the door softly as I left. It had been a big day for her.
