Care Packages - Feel At Home!
If you have a loved one that is far away from home, you may want to bring them comfort by sending them care packages. When someone gets a piece of home while on the other side of the world, or even just the other side of the country, they feel closer to those that love them. Care packages can contain almost anything, and the best kinds are the ones that are put together with love and consideration. If you are rushed for time, you can even find ready-made care packages you can have mailed on your behalf.
When putting together care packages, consider who you are sending the package to, and what they may miss about home. If you always make a special kind of cookie, you should include them in your care packages. Just remember that really good cookies often don’t make it past customs, no matter what anyone tells you. They often mysteriously disappear. No one is quite sure how this happens, but there are theories.
Don’t forget about items that may be hard to come by for your traveler. This is important if you are sending care packages to members of the military. They may tell you that a tube of their favorite toothpaste is more valuable to them than your cookies, though getting both would be wonderful. They may miss things like chocolate, floss, or copies of their favorite magazines. If you aren’t sure what to buy, sit down and think about what they used to do and use on a daily basis. Something as simple as a new package of warm socks might be most appreciated.
If you have a family member or friend that has gone a long way from home to attend college, know that your care packages might keep them from getting too homesick. You might want to include their favorite things, and other things that you know they like, but might not be able to buy on a college student’s budget. Calling cards are a great idea, as you can never have too many of these. You might also want to get them gift certificates to the movies, or for clothing. If they are very short on money, getting them some gift certificates to restaurants may afford them a night out when they otherwise might not be able to afford it.
If you are pressed for time, but really want to send something, you can get pre-made care packages for those you love that are far away. Some come with themes, and may contain things a college student, or member of the military may love. They come in packages with the contents already selected, or you can choose what you want to include. You may think this is less personal, but your loved one will appreciate the care packages all the same.
