Disney Store - A Haven For Kids

For people who grew up with Walt Disney films, there is a magic surrounding the characters. If you don’t like Disney, you haven’t got a heart. My favorite store is the Disney store. I used to go there to buy things for the kids. Now, they’re grown up so I don’t have an excuse but I go anyway.

The first thing you notice when you step thru the door and you are welcomed by the nice, greeting lady, is a sea of color. There’s purple, pink and blue and lots of smiling characters. I’ve never heard a naughty child in a Disney store, I think they’re too overwhelmed by it all.

There are the classic characters, beloved by parents and grandparents. These are Pooh Bear, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella and so on. Then there are the characters from the recent movies. A wall screen plays clips from the films. I love to browse thru the costumes in the Disney store like the Princess party dresses and the Captain Hook outfits. There’s even a Pirates of the Caribbean costume for the grown ups.

The range of products is very wide. There are soft toys, such as Tigger and Nemo and action figures. My favorite action toy is Buzz Lightyear. There’s things for school like lunch boxes and pencil cases. There’s little stocking fillers like pencils and key rings. Of course, they sell DVDs of the movies, posters and books of Disney stories.

The Disney corporation is very protective of its trademark and all the items are made to the highest standard. Parents can feel confident that something bought in the Disney store will be safe. The only problem when you go in there is what to choose.

I have a fantasy that all the stock comes to life after the shop is closed and everyone’s gone home, like the toys in Toy Story. I’m sure kids really believe it too, everything in there is so lifelike. It would be great if a back door really led to the 100 Acre Wood and Pooh was playing Pooh sticks on the bridge. Then they’d never get me out of there.

The Disney creative output went into a slump for a while, but they got back on track with a series of films from their collaboration with Pixar. Toy Story and Toy Story II, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles are all excellent films for adults and kids. Now, Cars is doing really well too, and you can get a Lightning McQueen car in the Disney store.
