Hip Hop Clothing - Should Older Folks Try Wearing It.
Teenagers seem to be the ones setting the fashion trends as of late. Most women can recall a time when sixteen and seventeen-year-old girls were the only ones wearing low rise jeans. Now you can find women of all ages, and even some men proudly wearing them. Although many people want to look much younger and in an effort to, don the clothing of the teenage set, there are just some fashions that older folks need to stay far away from.
There’s an unspoken rule that no woman should be allowed to wear a mini-skirt after the age of thirty-five. For most of us that is great advice, but for someone like Cher it’s seen as a restriction she’s not ready to accept. But what about the latest hip hop clothing rage? Should a forty-five year old woman or man really be seen in this gear?
My first and final answer is “no.” Although we may think we look cool with the gangster rap clothing styles on, we probably look goofy. Our children are the first to tell us that hip hop clothing isn’t meant for anyone over the age of twenty and that’s actually some of the best fashion advice you are ever going to receive.
Many people feel that kids should be able to express themselves freely through their appearance. This can be a bit hard for a parent to accept when they’re looking at a child with a bald head and a number of piercings but maybe there’s something to be said for free expression.
Some of the latest clothing styles have gotten a bad rap because of who they are associated with. Hip hop clothing seems to be one of them as many people hear about rap stars shooting one another and mistakenly believe that if their child opts for hip hop clothing they are going to be in the wrong crowd. The fact of the matter is that hip hop clothing is just that, it’s clothing. Kids love looking like their favorite music stars, and this style of clothing allows them the chance to do it.
If your child is drawn to this clothing style you are probably not going to find it in your local department store. Many kids are buying their favorite hip hop clothing off of the Internet. In fact, many of the most successful recording artists are coming up with their own lines of hip hop clothing.
It’s really up to the individual parents to decide what is and what isn’t appropriate for their child to wear. If you’re of the mind that the clothing reflects the person, just think about how successful some of the hip hop clothing designers are.
