is it okay to use an exercise cycle while standing up on the pedals?

i have an Advantage Fitness Exercise Cycle and its fuselage is made of plastic (at least the outer shell). the user weight limit is 220 lbs but i am afraid that the fuselage might break down if i pedal while standing on it. i tried it for a while but the pedal made a kind of slight grinding noise, so i don’t want to take the risk.

By standing up on the pedals, you defeat the purpose of the exercise bike. Standing allows gravity to help you push down on the pedal, meaning the legs muscles don’t have to work as hard.

It’s a great technique, on the road, for climbing hills and allows you to get somewhere with less effort.

But the point of the exercise bike is not transportation. Making the workout easier on yourself serves no purpose. It puts miles on the odometer, but you don’t get all the benefit of your time on the bike.
